The Proper Nighttime Skincare Routine for All Skin Types

On the Internet, you’ll find plenty of resources on what kind of skincare routine you should have, depending on your skin type. While the intention is to always help those with acne-prone skin, the information you read on the Internet does not necessarily mean that the process indicated there is good for your skin. Some may just harm your skin more than help it.

For example, the effective REN Night cream is a formulation that evens out skin tone and prevents signs of ageing. But unless you are sure that this is the type of skincare product your skin needs, it is imperative that you do research first before applying all the fad and trendy products you see online. The key is to get to know your skin type a little bit more, recognise that not all ingredients in skincare products are good for your skin, and follow a routine that’s beneficial to your skin’s health.

Remove Your Makeup

After a long day at work, it’s tempting to just lie on the couch and do nothing. But you’re doing your skin more harm than good. Unless necessary, you should not put that much makeup on your face. You are clogging the pores and not letting your skin breath. As soon as you get home, remove your makeup not with soap and water, but with a specially formulated makeup remover. Gently wipe away the products from your face with a soft cloth, tissue, or cotton ball. Make sure that all of the makeup has been properly removed. Think of this as prepping your face for cleansing.

Apply a Toner

A toner will even out skin tone and try to minimise the pores on your face. It comes in many different forms—creams, lotions, water-based toners, and even mousse. This is probably the most important step in your nighttime routine because toner prepares your skin for regeneration. For combination and oily skin, toners can reduce pores and remove excess oil. For dry and sensitive skin, toners lessen flaking and redness.

Put Moisturiser

No matter your skin type, you need to put the right kind of moisturiser on your face. Forget about the misconception that only those with dry skin needs “moisture”. If you have an oily or a combination skin type, a water-based moisturiser will do the trick. If you have dry skin, choose a moisturiser that can provide long-lasting hydration. For ageing skin, opt for a moisturiser that has anti-ageing properties. If you have a normal skin type, you’re one of the lucky ones because you can use whatever kind of moisturiser as long as it’s formulated for normal skin and there are plenty of those.

Use a Face Mask

As a bonus, you can use face masks two to three times each week. You can choose from many different types of face masks—pore minimisers, collagen, anti-ageing, charcoal, hydrating, and many more. Make sure to apply a face mask after you’ve cleaned your face and patted it dry. Leave the face mask for 10 to 15 minutes and make sure that you’re lying down and resting your muscles while it’s on you. After removing it, you can wash your face with lukewarm water or pat it dry to let the formulation seep into your skin.

Finally, try to get more hours of sleep instead of spending a few hours on your phone each night. No skincare routine beats a good night’s sleep. You’ll find that after eight full hours of sleep, your skin looks more hydrated and brighter than ever.
