Many people collect crystals to ease their minds and bodies, some even use them to attract luck and wealth. It’s believed that crystals send unique and natural signals or frequencies out into the universe.
However, since crystals are also exposed to different energy levels, this might cause them to absorb negativity and dampen their effectiveness. This is why it’s important to cleanse and recharge your crystals.
Regularly cleansing your crystals is the only way to maintain the effectiveness of your stones. Properly caring for them will also help you remain invigorated as you continue to use them.
Below are some simple tips that can help you cleanse, recharge and take care of your crystals.
How to Cleanse Your Crystals
- Sunlight
To cleanse your crystal, leave them on a windowsill or somewhere it can get a direct dose of sunlight or moonlight. Let them bask under natural light for 12 hours. If possible, choose the time between dusk and dawn.
- Running Water
Another easy way to cleanse your crystals is to hold them under your faucet for a minute or two. Then, submerge them in clean water and then dry them clean.
There are some crystals that are too brittle and won’t do well with water. As a rule of thumb, any crystals that end with ‘nite’ should never get in contact with liquids.
- Sage
Sage is a versatile plant that can be used as a spice or as medicine. When it comes to crystals, it’s said that smudging your stones will help clear negative vibrations and restore natural energy.
What you’ll need:
- Pyrex bowl or any oven-safe bowl
- Lighter
- Sage
Fire up the tip of the sage. Allow the smoke to form. Hold your stone and move it through the smoke.
Let the smoke surround the stone for a minute.
- Brown Rice
Another easy way to cleanse your crystals is by submerging it in brown rice. This is more effective for protective stones. Just make sure to dispose of the rice quickly after cleansing.
- Other Stones
You can use stones with cleansing benefits to clear your other stones.
Selenite, kyanite, large quartz clusters and amethyst are some examples of cleansing stones. You can place your stone beside these stones to cleanse them of negative energies.
- Saltwater
You can also use salt water to absorb negative energy from your stones. If you’re near the sea or ocean then it’s best to collect your saltwater from there. You can also use rock, sea or table salt and mix it into a bowl of water to cleanse your stones.
Submerge your stones in the water for 1 hour. Once done, remove your stones from the water and then pat them dry.
Note that you shouldn’t submerge your stones in water if they’re brittle or soft stones. Crystals ending in “ite” are mostly the ones that cannot go in the water.
How to Charge Your Crystals
Your crystals can run out of energy and will eventually need recharging. After cleansing your crystal, you then need to charge it.
Cleansing is when you remove the negative energy, and charging is when you restore the stone’s natural power.
The easiest way to charge your crystals is by leaving them under the sunlight.
The sun does an excellent job in both cleansing and charging your crystal. All you need to do is leave them out for 30 minutes. You can also use this to recharge your cleansing crystals (selenite, kyanite or amethyst).
How Often Should You Cleanse and Charge Your Crystals?
At least once a month should be enough. But if you use your crystals a lot then you should cleanse and recharge it more.
Always do your research to ensure that you’re doing the right thing when cleansing your crystals.
How to Program Your Crystals
Crystals are known to have many uses, from soothing the mind to calming the body, people use them for many reasons. However, you might need to program them to align them with your intention. This will help you connect with the crystal’s energy and have it support your purpose.
To program your stone, hold it while you meditate, or place it on your Third Eye located on your forehead. As you continue to meditate, imagine the stone’s energy becoming one with yours. Communicate with your crystal and ask for its support and remember to show your gratitude. Thank the stone for its assistance.
Note that crystals are not an alternative to medicines or other healing methods, never use them to treat health issues.
