Do You Really Need to Go to the Dentist?

Having excellent overall health also means you have to take care of your teeth and gums.

Most of us had an aversion if not outright fear of going to the dentist when we young, and it’s entirely normal for kids to be a bit afraid of going to the dentist. Fortunately, this fear of going to the dentist is something that most, if not all of us, eventually outgrow as we grow older. Dentists, just like doctors or any other healthcare professionals, are there to help us take care of ourselves better. A healthier lifestyle is a better lifestyle, and overall health includes taking care of your teeth as most of us teach our children as we have been taught since young. However, brushing three times a day and flossing daily isn’t enough; we should also regularly visit our dentist for a cleaning and whatever dental procedures that the dentist would recommend to keep your gums and teeth as healthy as they can be. Aside from cleaning services, dentists offer a variety of services and procedures because, due to a variety of factors, most of us don’t exactly have the best teeth or oral health that we can have.

Most common dental procedures available

Most dental clinics share several procedures so you can have your pick of the most reputable and affordable clinics in your area. Some of the most common dental procedures available are the following:

Bonding

This is a treatment generally used to repair decaying, fractured, or chipped teeth. A dentist uses a paste made from a composite resin and applies it in several layers to each tooth. The resin is then hardened using either a laser or ultraviolet light then polished to make the finished tooth look natural and smooth.

Braces

Straight teeth bless not everyone, and some are crooked, but that is easily fixed by using braces. Braces are used to correctly align the teeth by keeping them in place and properly aligned. Over 2 years (usually), regular visits to your orthodontist are required to adjust your braces.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth become stained and darker with age and other factors such as eating or drinking specific things like coffee and berries. Smoking cigarettes also makes your tints your teeth yellow. Whitening helps get your teeth’s natural white color back.

Crowns and Caps

A crown or a cap is a cover that fits a damaged, stained, or decayed tooth. Usually made out of porcelain or metal, crowns are made to resemble and match the natural shape and color of your teeth.

Fillings

Dental fillings are used to repair and fill up teeth that have cavities or small holes. While dental fillings last a long time, they are not permanent and should be replaced every nine years on average. It would be best to check with your dentist to check if your fillings will need replacement.

Extraction

As a last resort, extraction is usually performed on severely damaged or decayed teeth that can’t be repaired. Wisdom teeth are also mostly extracted, depending on how they grow out.

Dental Implants

Dental Implants

This procedure is one of the most popular and commonly performed and aims to replace damaged or missing teeth. Unlike a cap or crown procedure, this will take up to six months to complete. Dental Implants are worth it and looks a lot more natural than dentures but may not be recommended for everyone, especially children and pregnant women. It is recommended to visit your dentist regularly to make sure that your implants are in the best condition. Most dentists offer this procedure so it’s easy to find a clinic that offers it. In my case, all I needed to do was search the internet with keywords such as “dental implants South Jordan” and the most reputable clinics in my area that offer it popped up on the first page.

A trip to the dentist isn’t as scary as we once thought.

Back when I was a kid, a good dentist is someone who can perform procedures in a fast and efficient way, but the mark of a great dentist is when I wasn’t even scared to go to the dentist at all. These days, with advancement in technology, taking care of our teeth and gums is a lot easier and cheaper than ever before so even though you brush your teeth regularly, it is recommended to visit the dentist regularly as how we take care of our teeth should be a reflection on how we take care of the rest of our body.
